Abby Johnston is a diver competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

U.S. diver Abby Johnston is 22, but her resume is filled with plenty of accolades; NCAA champion and three-time All-American top the list. Missing, of course, is an Olympic medal. Johnston placed 11th in the 3m springboard at the 2008 Trials, but she enters the 2012 Olympic season with a legitimate shot at making the London squad in 3m synchro with Kelci Bryant.

Johnston got her first glimpse of the London Aquatic Centre during a FINA World Cup meet held there in February. To the U.S. divers, the meet served as the first part of their Olympic Trials; based on the results, the team would qualify for spots in the Olympic diving competition. "It's thrilling that we're going to get to see the environment, get a feel for the pool and the surroundings and have a good visual of what the Olympics will be like," Johnston said in a goduke.com story. Johnston and Bryant finished fourth in the 3m synchro, and the U.S. team qualified for two slots in each individual event and one team in the synchros except women's platform synchro (zero).

In 2009, Johnston became the first Duke diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She proceeded to finish fifth in the 3m. Her 2011 national title was the first such victory in the school's history. Diving is not all the Ohio native does at Duke, however. Johnston is a pre-med major and has completed an internship in the brain tumor clinic at Duke Hospital.

As is the case with most divers, Johnston's athletic life began as a gymnast. She competed in the sport for nine years as kid until a back injury derailed her plans. That's when she found diving (in 2002), and first made the national team in 2006. Johnston has two sisters, Adrienne and Leah.
