Andrea Katz from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. She is a 58-year-old designer who grew up in Oceanside, New York, and is currently living in New York City.
Andrea Katz ("Project Runway") first realized she had potential as a designer when she was ten years old. When she was 13, she made her first garment: a poncho. She went to art school and taught herself on the job. She doesn't follow trends, and she considers that to be both a strength and a weakness.
Katz has always tried to challenge herself and push herself to the limits of what she can do. Now she also tries to make it marketable at the same time. She's most proud of her hoop collection, because it makes people smile.
Her favorite designers are Chalayan, Maurizio Amadeo, Yamamoto, Prada, Wang and Kawakubo. She considers it to be a fashion must to make whatever you buy "your own." Her favorite style icon is Katharine Hepburn. She would love to design a gown for Bjork or a suit for Tilda Swinton.
