Andrea Navedo stars in "Jane the Virgin" on The CW as Xiomara Gloriana Garcia.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Andrea Navedo had dreamt of becoming an actress. Growing up as a child, however, she didn't see any significant examples of Latinos on television or film so she never considered it a real possibility. During her first semester at the State University of New York at Old Westbury College, she saw an audition sign for Bertolt Brecht's play "The Exception and the Rule" posted on the wall just outside of the school's theater doors. Her heart jumped when she read it, and she instantly wanted to audition; she, however, talked herself out of it because she had had no acting experience. Days later as the date of the audition neared, she couldn't stop thinking about it. She went back and forth in her mind on whether or not to try out for the play. Ultimately, she didn't want to look back and have any regrets, so in spite of her fears she showed up to the audition and to her great surprise landed a part. After performing in that first play, she was hooked and the following semester she declared acting as her major. She earned a BA in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Acting. Afterwards she completed the two-year Meisner program with The Acting Studio Inc. where studied with James Price and John Grabowski.

Navedo first appeared professionally as a regular dancer on "Club MTV" and made her feature film acting debut as the phone sex girl in Spike Lee's "Girl 6." Navedo went on to book major recurring roles on "One Life to Live," as Linda Soto, "The Guiding Light," as Theresa Sandoval, and "Law & Order," as Detective Ana Cordova. She more recently recurred as Cynthia Mancheno in NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," Lorraine Arroyo in CBS's "Golden Boy" and Debbie Dominguez in HBO's "How to Make it in America." She also has had guest roles on several television shows, including "The Leftovers," "White Collar," "Damages," "Blue Bloods" and "NY Undercover."

Some of her film credits include co-starring with Manny Perez in the indie "Washington Heights," playing Jennifer Lopez's sister in "El Cantante," working with Robert Pattinson in "Remember Me," and starring as the female lead in the action comedy "Double Take," opposite Orlando Jones and Eddie Griffin.

Navedo is also a talented comedienne. She often appears with comic Rich Ramirez and a group of Latin performers whose sketch comedy troupe Salsoul (Salsa and Soul) perform regularly at the famed Carolines comedy club in Manhattan.

Navedo's other talents include portrait photography which she started to pursue after she gave birth to her daughter and felt compelled to capture her in stills.

Navedo lives in New York with her husband and two children.
