Angela Lansbury stars in "Mr. Popper's Penguins," opposite Jim Carrey, as Mrs. Van Gundy. The zany family comedy is about a New York businessman whose life is turned upside down when he acquires a group of penguins in the mail.

A hugely accomplished film, theater, and television actress, Angela Lansbury has won a record-setting five Tony Awards, six Golden Globes, and has been nominated three times for an Academy Award. Nominated for an incredibly eighteen Emmy Awards, the beloved actress is perhaps still best known for her role as the crime-solving mystery writer Jessica Fletcher on the long-running television series "Murder, She Wrote."

Not long after arriving in the United States from her native England, Lansbury made her film debut in 1944 with the thriller "Gaslight," opposite Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer, directed by George Cukor. As the devious housemaid Nancy, Lansbury earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She was nominated for an Academy Award again the very next year for her role in the adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray," also starring George Sanders.

In 1963, Lansbury starred with Frank Sinatra and Laurence Harvey in John Frankenheimer's classic film "The Manchurian Candidate," in a sinister role that brought Lansbury her third Oscar nomination. Angela Lansbury's many other film credits include "The World of Henry Orient," "The Greatest Story Ever Told," "Something for Everyone," "Death on the Nile," "Nanny McPhee," and "The MIrror Crack'd." Lansbury has also lent her voice to several animated characters for such films as "Beauty and the Beast" and "Anastasia."

A versatile performer and brilliant singer, Lansbury also appeared in the movie musicals "Till the Clouds Roll By," "The Harvey Girls," and "Bedknobs and Broomsticks." She has appeared on Broadway many times, including such iconic shows as "Mame," "Dear World," "Gypsy," and "Sweeney Todd." Lansbury won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for all four of those productions. She has returned to Broadway many times over the years, most recently starring in a revival of "A Little Night Music" opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones.

In addition to "Murder She Wrote," Lansbury appeared in numerous television movies, and played a guest role on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" that earned her an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Among her many honors, Lansbury has received the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, BAFTA's Award for Lifetime Achievement, the National Medal of the Arts, and the Kennedy Center Honors. She was also named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth in 1994.
