Anthony Davis is a basketball player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Anthony Davis makes his Olympic debut in London, where the U.S. men look to defend the gold medal they won in 2008. It will also mark his first appearance for the U.S. senior national team, as he and James Harden are the only 2012 team members not to have previously competed at a major international tournament. Neither was among the first 20 finalists chosen for the team in January, but following a rash

of injuries to other players in the pool, Davis and Harden were added in May. In July, Harden was chosen for the original 12-man Olympic roster while Davis was added a week later as a replacement for Blake Griffin, who suffered an injury in training camp.

Whether it was with the NBA's best stars on the Olympic team or against the NBA's best stars during the league's upcoming season, Davis was going to get his first taste of playing with professionals in 2012 either way. He was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets on June 28, left off the Olympic team on July 7, then added to the roster on July 13. Davis follows in the footsteps of Emeka Okafor, who was a late addition to the 2004 U.S. Olympic team after being drafted No. 2 overall and before stepping on the court for his first professional game.

The latest phenom to play one year of college ball before turning pro, Davis was the consensus national player of the year in 2011-12, as he averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game. He became just the second freshman to win the Associated Press Player of the Year award and Naismith Trophy; Olympic teammate Kevin Durant was the other. But Davis topped off his season by leading the University of Kentucky to the national title and earning NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. He tallied 186 blocked shots on the season, the most in the history of the Southeastern Conference and an all-time NCAA mark for freshmen.

Born and raised in Chicago, Davis was just another guard until he grew six to seven inches between his junior and senior seasons at Perspectives Charter school. He was named to the McDonald's and Parade Magazine All-America First Teams after averaging 32 points, 22 rebounds and seven blocks a game as a senior. In addition, Davis was a member of the honor roll every year since he was a freshman. The son of Anthony and Erainer, Davis has an older sister, Iesha, and a twin sister, Antoinette. Known for his thick eyebrow, he trademarked the phrases "Fear The Brow" and "Raise The Brow" in June 2012.
