Babou Ceesay stars in NBC's miniseries "A.D." as John.

Babou Ceesay graduated from the Oxford School of Drama. Onstage, he has performed in "The Recruiting Officer" at the Salisbury Playhouse, "Serpent's Tooth" at Almeida Theatre, "Bang Bang Bang" at Royal Court Theatre, "Elektra" at Young Vic, "The God's Weep" with the Royal Shakespeare Company, "Doctor Faustus" at Present Moment, "A Midsummer Nights Dream" and "The Merchant of Venice" at the Watermill Theatre, "The Overwhelming" at the National Theatre, and the international tour of "Macbeth."

On television, Ceesay has been seen in "Lewis," "Strikeback," "Getting On," "Casualty," "Stolen," "Luther," "Shirley," "Law & Order: UK," "Whistleblower" and "Silent Witness."

On the big screen, Ceesay has appeared in the romantic drama "Half of a Yellow Sun," starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton and Anika Noni Rose, the action thriller "'71" by Warp Films, and "Severance" in his film debut.

Radio work for the BBC includes "Wild Blood," "The New Bwana," "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency," "The Spare Room," "Just Joshua" and "Giles Wemmbley-Hogg Goes Off."
