Bill "Hollywood" Muniz from "Wicked Tuna" is one of the fishing captains featured in the National Geographic Channel reality docu-series. He is the captain of the Lily.

Born and raised in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Captain Bill "Hollywood" Muniz caught his first bluefin at age 17 and knew it was his calling. He spent the early part of his career working on swordfish boats (including a season with the doomed vessel Andrea Gail) before captaining his own tuna boat, the Hollywood, at age 22.

Muniz had great success captaining the Hollywood, which earned him his nickname, before taking over the Lily in 2007. Although Hollywood has fished for bluefin using the rod-and-reel method before, he prefers to stick with harpooning, and gillnet fishes for groundfish during the offseason.

Harpooning is a highly technical method with a short season timed to the bluefin migration from Canadian waters — June through mid-July — so the pressure to catch one is intense. But for Captain Hollywood, the adrenaline rush makes the risk worthwhile. "I rely on my first mate, Jimmy, to coordinate with Marky to get me in the right spot," says Captain Hollywood.

"The difference between harpooning and rod-and-reeling," says Captain Hollywood, "is that harpooners are hunters. Harpooning, you're always moving, looking for them. You're going to the fish, versus waiting for the fish to find you, as you are when you're rod and reeling."

New to the "Wicked Tuna" fleet in season 3, the Lily is one of Gloucester's finest harpoon boats, captained by Muniz. Harpooning is an ancient method of fishing with a modern twist — guided by a spotter plane, harpoon boats track down schools of bluefin and carefully select the perfect position to nab one tuna with a singe harpoon shot.
