Dennis Quaid stars in "Vegas" on CBS as Sheriff Ralph Lamb, a former cowboy who becomes the sheriff of Las Vegas in 1962, reshapes the police department and brings law and order to a town run by mobsters and small time crooks.

On the big screen, Quaid stars in the comedy "What to Expect When You're Expecting," opposite Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks and Chace Crawford, as Ramsey. Quaid can be also seen in "The Words," opposite Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Irons and Olivia Wilde. The film debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for release in October 2012.

Quaid recently completed work on Gabriele Muccino's "Playing the Field," in which he co-stars with Gerard Butler, Uma Thurman, Jessica Biel and Catherine Zeta-Jones. In 2011, Quaid also wrapped production on Ramin Bahrani's film, "Heartland," alongside Zac Efron and Heather Graham.

At the beginning of 2012, Dennis was seen in Martin Guigui's independent feature, "Beneath the Darkness," which also stars Aimee Teegarden. Quaid had a busy year in 2011. His film "Soul Surfer," in which he starred alongside Helen Hunt and AnnaSophia Robb, became the spring's sleeper hit. He later appeared opposite Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough and Andie MacDowell as Reverend Shaw in the well-received remake of "Footloose" for director Craig Brewer.

In 2010, Dennis starred in the Sony Screen Gems fantasy-thriller, "Legion" alongside Paul Bettany. He also portrayed President Bill Clinton in the HBO movie, The Special Relationship, directed by Richard Loncraine, for which Dennis received a Golden Globe nomination.

With every role he plays, Dennis Quaid upholds his place as one of the most charismatic actors of our time. He was born in Houston, Texas, to a real estate agent and an electrician. A graduate of Bellaire High School and an attendee of the University of Houston, he also has an older brother, Randy Quaid, who is an actor.

Soon after dropping out of college to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles, he landed the plum role of a working-class tough in "Breaking Away," which was followed soon thereafter by "The Right Stuff." Other early film credits include "The Long Riders" with his brother Randy, "9/30/55," "Crazy Mama," "Dreamscape," "All Night Long," "Our Winning Season," "Cavemen," "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden," "Enemy Mine," "Innerspace," and in the lead role of Jerry Lee Lewis in "Great Balls of Fire!"

In 1983 Quaid starred with Mickey Rooney in the Emmy Award-winning television movie "Bill" and its sequel, "Bill: On His Own." A year later he co-starred with Randy Quaid in the off-Broadway production of Sam Shepard's "True West," which he later reprised in Los Angeles.

In the 1990s Quaid appeared in a number of films, including "Wyatt Earp" as Doc Holliday, "The Parent Trap," and Oliver Stone's "Any Given Sunday." More recently, he has appeared in "Yours, Mine and Ours," "The Day After Tomorrow," alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, "The Flight of the Phoenix," and as Texas high school baseball coach turned 40-year-old rookie pitcher Jimmy Morris in "The Rookie."

Quaid received honors from the New York Film Critics Circle, The Independent Spirit Awards and Chicago Film Critics Association Award as Best Supporting Actor and also garnered nominations for a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actor's Guild Award for his performance in the critically acclaimed 2002 film, "Far From Heaven."

More recent credits include "Pandorum," starring alongside Ben Foster and Cam Gigandet, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," starring alongside Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and Sienna Miller, and "Vantage Point," starring alongside Forest Whitaker and Matthew Fox.

In his free time, Quaid plays with his band, The Sharks, in addition to flying planes and golfing.

Quaid splits his time between homes in Los Angeles, Montana and Texas.
