Dmitry Sholokhov from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. He is a 33-year-old designer who grew up in Novopolotsk, Belarus, and is currently living in New York City.
Dmitry Sholokhov ("Project Runway") started sketching when he was around seven years old and knew that he wanted to be a designer by time he was 10. He also used to want to be a professional ballroom dancer, and around age 11, he started designing costumes for himself, his partners and his friends. He graduated from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in Fashion Design. He has won both a GenArt Award and a Gene Kahn Scholarship Award. He was the "24 Hour Catwalk" grand-prize winner and had a Parsons Designer showcase at DEBUT. He was also a finalist in both the Saga Furs Design and the Gap Design competitions.
Sholokhov considers his strengths to be great construction, draping and technical skills, while his weakness is that he sometimes doesn't have enough patience. He is usually inspired by architecture and graphic forms and objects. His designs are clean, graphic, but comfortable at the same time. Comfort is important to him as a designer. While he's designing, he likes listening to all kinds of music, from classical to pop. He especially loves French music.
Sholokhov admires the work of Alexander McQueen and says the right shoes and accessories are a fashion must. Sholokhov's favorite style icons are Daphne Guinness, Tilda Swinton and Patricia Kaas, while his super model muse is Daria Werbowy.
