Donald Sumpter stars in "Game of Thrones" on HBO in the recurring role of Maester Luwin.

British actor Donald Sumpter tackled a host of roles in his native Britain before breaking through to international acclaim. He landed everal guest parts as different characters on the cult series "Doctor Who," starting in 1968, and then segued to feature films over the next three decades that included "Meetings with Remarkable Men" (1979), "Curse of the Pink Panther" (1983), "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" (1990), and "Richard III" (1995).

He has appeared in many TV movies and miniseries, including adaptations of Dickens' novels: "Nicholas Nickleby" in 2001, "Great Expectations" in 1999, and "Bleak House" in 1985. He has also appeared in episodes of "Midsummer Murders," "The Bill," "Holby City," and "A Touch of Frost."

Sumpter landed pivotal supporting roles in Fernando Meirelles' "The Constant Gardener" (2005) and David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promises" (2007). Sumpter was also in the BBC miniseries "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" and TNT's "Into the Storm." He most recently played Kemp in the BBC series "Being Human."
