Elise Neal was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating form Overton High School for the Performing Arts in 1984, she moved on to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. However she left Philadelphia to move to New York City to pursue a career in theater. She eventually transitioned to commercials and from there landed in Los Angeles. Neal also starred on "The Hughleys" as Yvonne Hughley, a role for which she was nominated twice for the NAACP award for Best Actress in a Comedy.
Her first role was on the ABC soap "Loving" as Janice Sinclair, which was followed soon thereafter by her first film role in John Singleton's "Rosewood." Her other film credits include "Paid in Full," "Money Talks," "Mission to Mars" and "Restaurant." In addition to her role in "4 Life," Neal had her first debut soundtrack single, "I'm Down Baby." Her other roles include appearances in the series "My Manny," "K-Ville," which starred Anthony Anderson, "All of Us," and in the film "Ransom Games."
For her role in "Hustle and Flow," Neal received a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble, the NAACP award for Best Picture and the Young Hollywood Award for Best Cast. She also won the NAACP award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
Neal has also appeared in a number of music videos, including ones for Vanessa Williams, 50 Cent, Trick Daddy and Aretha Franklin. She also appeared on King Magazine's November 2007 cover.
