Frances Reid as Alice Horton on "Days of Our Lives"
Frances Reid as Alice Horton Days of Our Lives
Emmy Award nominated Frances Reid, who has played Alice Horton for the entire 40 years "Days of Our Lives" has been on the air, is daytime television's most beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As the only remaining original cast member, Frances Reid is indisputably one of the most revered veterans in soap opera history.

Frances Reid has won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Actress/Mature Role in 1978, 1979, 1984 and 1985 and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1986/87 and for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1978/79. Frances Reid was inducted into the Television Academy's archives in 2003 and is being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Television Academy at the Daytime Emmy Awards in early 2004.

Frances Reid had an accomplished acting career prior to her debut on "Days of Our Lives" on November 8, 1965. After graduating from Pasadena Community Playhouse, Frances Reid pursued her acting career immediately, landing a role in the West Coast production of "Tovarich." Other theater roles for Frances Reid include "Hamlet" with Maurice Evans, "Cyrano de Bergerac" with Jose Ferrer, "Twelfth Night" and a Theater Guild production of "The Rivals" with Mary Boland.

Frances Reid's first television job was at NBC as Ann Rutledge in "Prologue To Glory," which was followed by the role of Mrs. Moonlight in "Mrs. Moonlight" and Charlotte Corday in "Charlotte Corday." Little did Frances Reid know at the time how the name Corday was to play an important role in her life.

Frances Reid's other television credits include the "Eleventh Hour," "Little Mister," "Wagon Train" and the movie-of-the-week "Mercy or Murder?" Recently Frances Reid guest starred on NBC's "American Dreams," when the show paid tribute to "Days of Our Lives."

In 1965, when Ted Corday offered Frances Reid the role of  "Alice," she was hesitant about signing on with "Days of our Lives." Frances Reid was familiar with the pressures of doing a daily show and, at that time, working on a soap opera was not the thing to do. However, roles for women over 40 were not copious and Frances Reid, who always needs to be working, accepted his offer. Now, Frances Reid celebrates a four-decade role as the show's matriarch.

When not acting, Frances Reid is an inveterate traveler. Frances Reid's vacations find her in such exotic locales as South Africa, Peru, China and Egypt and the more mundane but no less exciting cities of Europe. To help lookout after her fellow actors, Frances Reid is an active member of the American Federation for Television and Radio Artists, serving as first vice president of the local chapter.

Frances Reid was married to the late actor Philip Bourneuf for 43 years. Having recently celebrated her 90th birthday, Frances Reid says age is no reason to retire from the thing she loves to do best - act. Frances Reid's birthday is December 9.
