Freddy Maugatai from "Deadliest Catch" is a deckhand for the Cornelia Marie crew in the Discovery Channel docu-series about crab fishing.
A hardworking, tough Samoan, Freddy Maugatai has a soft heart and will often defend other deckhands when they come under fire from captains or deck bullies. He has fished on and off with the Cornelia Marie since 2000.
Freddy incorporates Samoan traditions into his fishing routine: he eats cod hearts and other fish organs "for strength" and he shouts out native blessings and other magical morale boosters.
Freddy also has a great sense of humor. When the boat's crew gets the blues, he keeps up spirits by donning a jacket and tie in subzero weather or dancing around in a tank top.
