The Galt family from "Last American Cowboy" stars in the Animal Planet reality docu-series.

Bill Galt runs a mega-ranch that's been in his family for generations. The Galt Ranch spans over 100,000 acres in the wilds of Montana and is home to 7,500 cattle and 100 horses; it is so vast Bill manages it from the sky—in his own helicopter. The helicopter allows Bill to keep an eye on his land and cattle, hunt predators and move pesky elk herds that devour his cattle's food supply. It also allows him to quickly check for wildfires and effectively manage his massive operation. Bill believes technology is the future of ranching and necessary to efficiently run a ranch of this caliber.

Alongside Bill is his young nephew Tyson Hill, who is the ranch's foreman. Together with a small team of ranch hands, they oversee one of the largest cattle ranches in the country. Tyson came to the ranch during high school to be "straightened out," as his parents felt he was focusing on the wrong things. Bill made a pact with Tyson that when his grades improved he could return home, but Tyson loved ranching life so he never left; now, as foreman, he is critical to the future of the Galt ranch.
