Jem Stansfield is the head of engineering in BBC America's science series "Bang Goes the Theory." He conceives, designs and builds the experiments, stunts and demonstrations in addition to coming up with most of the items, writing scripts and presenting.

Jem Stansfield has a degree in Aeronautics from Bristol University and is a qualified welder. He has been a shepherd and worked in a circus, and then found himself working in special effects in big budget movies, and creating interactive exhibitions for science museums all over the world.

Since working as a staff engineer on the UK TV series "Scrapheap Challenge" he now can't bear to use a new component if there's anything he can recycle from something else. As a design ethic it's not been too limiting; over the past few years Stansfield has built and flown his own jet pack, created a toffee powered rocket, an air powered motorbike and managed to convert a 1980s sports car to run, very nicely, on used coffee grounds.

Stansfield has been seen on BBC4's "Explosion," "Horizon," CBBC's "Planet Dinosaur Files," "Blue Peter," Sky Atlantic's "Mother of Invention," and Discovery's documentary special "The Hindenberg."
