Jeremy Clarkson is one of the hosts of the UK version of "Top Gear" that airs on BBC America in the U.S.

Born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, Jeremy Clarkson is an acclaimed broadcaster and journalist who was educated at Repton School, although he claims to have been expelled. His first job was as a traveling salesman for his parents' business, selling Paddington Bear toys, after which he trained as a journalist with the Rotherham Advertiser. He writes weekly columns for the UK newspapers The Sunday Times and The Sun.

It's not hyperbole to suggest that when Jeremy first appeared on old-style "Top Gear," his style changed the face of modern motoring journalism. He did this by realizing that people were less interested in being told about a car's valve timing, compression ratios and tire sizes, than they were in knowing whether (a) said car would improve their general quality of life and (b) if being seen driving one would make attractive people want to sleep with them.

When "Top Gear" returned in 2002, the show took this philosophy, added rocket-boosters and ran with it. The rest, as they say, is history.

As far as Clarkson's car history goes, it's fair to say he practices what he preaches. Over the years, his garage has played host to a variety of exotic cars including an Escort RS Cosworth, Ferrari F355, Mercedes SL55 AMG, Ford GT and Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. Well, you would, wouldn't you?

Clarkson has often been described as "the most influential man in motoring journalism," mainly by himself. Estimates suggest that he is slightly over nine feet tall, owns 14,000 pairs of jeans and has destroyed almost 4.2 million tires in his lifetime. He is best known for possessing a right foot apparently consisting of some sort of lead-based substance, for creating some of the most tortured similes ever committed to television, and for leaving the world's longest pauses between two parts ... of the same sentence. He has never taken public transport.

Born in the decade of the hippie, he has shunned free love and peace, preferring instead to drive around corners very fast, yelling "POWER" at the top of his lungs.

Clarkson has been accused of some amazing things in his time, including destroying a mountain, destroying the environment and destroying Rover cars. In his defense, the mountain is still there, we can all still breathe and Rover would still be here if their management hadn't been so terrible.
