Joel Johnstone stars in "The Astronaut Wives Club" on ABC as Gus Grissom.

Joel Johnstone recently played the recurring roles of Cameron in Aaron Sorkin's HBO drama "The Newsroom" and Dr. Andrew Cesario in HBO's comedy "Getting On." He also starred in Lifetime's original movie adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' "Deliverance Creek." Guest appearances on television series include ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and CBS's "Criminal Minds."

On the big screen, Johnstone was seen with Steve Carell this fall in the Disney film adaptation of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Johnstone discovered acting in middle school as an outlet once little league season was over and it was too cold to play baseball. In high school his interest grew stronger, and, living only 90 miles north of Chicago, he enrolled in summer acting programs at both Northwestern University and the Steppenwolf Theatre. At the age of 18, he moved to New York City and earned his B.A. in theater from Fordham University at Lincoln Center. He also studied abroad at the British American Drama Academy, partaking in both programs at Oxford University and in Central London. He continues to work in film, television and theater on both coasts.

Johnstone has also written and directed his own short film, "The Pilgrim & The Private Eye." Since 2012, the film has played at many festivals around the world and won multiple awards.
