Bowen was recently seen in a guest star arc on the darkly-comedic Showtime series "Weeds" as Lisa Ferris, a cheese shop owner who seduces a younger man, and she will soon be seen in "Crazy on the Outside," a feature starring and directed by Tim Allen.
Bowen was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she caught the acting bug as a child while putting on plays with her two sisters in their backyard. She attended Brown University, where she starred in "Guys and Dolls," "Stage Door" and "Lemon Sky." While earning a degree in Italian Renaissance studies, Bowen also spent a year in Florence, Italy, and became fluent in Italian.
During her senior year at Brown, Bowen landed the lead role in an independent film entitled "Five Spot Jewel," and was featured in actor-director Ed Burns' debut film, "No Visible Bruises." Bowen guest-starred on the dramatic series "Class of '96," then moved to Los Angeles where, within weeks, she landed the lead in the Showtime drama "Runaway Daughters," directed by Joe Dante.
She then had a starring role in the mountain rescue series "Extreme" (1995), which proved to be very short-lived. In 1996, Bowen appeared on episodes of "Party of Five" and "Strange Luck" and was featured in her first major theatrical release, opposite Adam Sandler in "Happy Gilmore." Bowen appeared with Michael Keaton in "Multiplicity" and also starred in "An American Werewolf in Paris."
In 1998-99, Bowen got her first hint of major stardom when she appeared on nine episodes of the hugely popular drama "ER," as John Carter's love interest Roxanne Please. She followed that with feature roles in films such as "You're Kiling Me..."; independent romantic comedy "Venus & Mars," with Lynn Redgrave; and "Joe Somebody," before landing her potentially career-defining role as Ed Stevens' love interest on "Ed." After that series ended, Bowen appeared in several episodes of the John Stamos vehicle "Jake in Progress" (2005), one of which also featured Constance Zimmer.
Bowen is married to real estate investor Scott Phillips with whom she has a son, Oliver.
