Karina Smirnoff from "Dancing with the Stars" is one of the professional dancers featured in the ABC ballroom competition series. The one-time champ teams up with professional football player Jacoby Jones for Season 16.

Smirnoff was runner-up alongside partner Mario Lopez during the third season of "Dancing with the Stars." In Season 4, she was paired with country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, coming in 5th place. On Season 5, she danced with world champion boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr., finishing in

9th place. In Season 6, she was partnered with singer Mario Barrett and came in 5th place. In Season 7, Karina and celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito were eliminated in the fourth week, as she was again with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak the following season. She did better in Season 9 though, when she and Aaron Carter finished in 5th place. The next season though, she was once again the fourth to go, this time with reality star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino. In Season 12, she reversed her fortunes with actor Ralph Macchio, coming in 4th place overall. For Season 13, she and soap opera star and Iraq war veteran J.R. Martinez were the winners! The next season, she and singer Gavin DeGraw were eliminated in the fourth week. In Season 15, she and short track speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno weren't eliminated until the 9th week, coming in 5th place overall.

Born in the Ukraine, Karina Smirnoff came to the U.S. with her family at age 12. She began ballet lessons at the age of 5 before moving on to figure skating which she studied for an additional five years. At the age of nine, she was introduced to ballroom dancing and fell in love with it.



After high school Smirnoff graduated from Fordham University with a law degree but put her academic studies on hold to pursue her ballroom dancing career in the United Kingdom.

She appeared on "Hannah Montana" with Billy Ray Cyrus.

Smirnoff and her former partner Slavik Kryklyvyy shared tremendous success winning the U.S. Championships and many other world titles and were ranked second in the world in the Latin division.
