Keith David stars in "The Cape" on NBC as Max Milani, the ringleader of a circus gang of bank robbers who mentors Vince Faraday (David Lyons) and trains him to be The Cape.

Keith David was born in Harlem, New York and raised in East Elmurst, Queens. With over 150 film, television and stage credits to his name, he continues to exemplify the character of Hollywood's greatest actors with a humble, untrying ability to remain in demand.

the cowardly lion in his school's production of "The Wizard of Oz." He then later enrolled in Manhattans High School of the Performing Arts and continued his studies in voice and theater at the prestigious Juilliard School of Drama. After graduation, Keith was hired as an understudy for the role of Tullus Aufidius in William Shakespeare's "Coriolanus." In 1992 he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his role in the classic Broadway play "Jelly's Last Jam."

Since then, Keith David has had ongoing careers in acting, voiceover and music. In 2008 Keith earned an Emmy Award for his narration of the "A Necessary War" segment of Ken Burns' miniseries and epic documentary "The War." Having earlier won an Emmy Award for his narration of another epic Ken Burns documentary, "Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson," Keith was also an Emmy nominee for narrating the documentary miniseries "Jazz."

David's extraordinary range of talent is evidenced by his body of feature films. His dozens of on-screen feature film roles include Oliver Stone's Academy Award-winning "Platoon"; Clint Eastwood's "Bird"; Peter and Bobby Farrelly's "There's Something About Mary"; Michael Bay's "Armageddon"; David Twohy's "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick"; Darren Aronofsky's "Requiem for a Dream"; Doug Liman's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"; Tim Story's "Barbershop"; Paul Haggis's Academy Award-winning "Crash"; and the title role in Rockmond Dunbar's "Pastor Brown."

On television, David's numerous acting credits include guest arcs on "ER" and 7th Heaven"; appearances on such shows as "Law & Order" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation"; and LeVar Burton's telefilm "The Tiger Woods Story," for which he was a Daytime Emmy Award nominee.

Noted for his deep, commanding voice, Keith has added another dimension to his career as a successful voice over artist. Internationally known as the voice behind Goliath from "Gargoyles" and the title character in the "Spawn" animated series, he also provided the voice for the character of Vhailor in the video game "Planescape: Torment" and the voice of The Arbiter for video game "Halo 2." Other voiceover credits include the A&E cable series "City Confidential" and speaking for the U.S. Navy in television commercials; and the animated feature "The Princess and the Frog."

As a native New Yorker, David has extensive stage experience, from Shakespeare on stage in Central Park to Broadway with credits that also include Sarah Pia Anderson's revival of "Hedda Gabler" and Lloyd Richard's original Broadway staging of the late August Wilson's "Seven Guitars."

Also an accomplished singer/songwriter with his own band, Keith tapped into some of today's top producers and chart-topping performers to join him on his album debut. The album features both a traditional jazz format and his personalized brand of a jazz and hip-hop hybrid.

Keith is the new voice of Smooth Jazz, 94.7 The WAVE, the Original Smooth Jazz radio station based in Los Angeles and streaming worldwide. In addition, he is the voice behind the character of "the cat" in the Disney film adaptation of "Coraline." The ensemble cast also includes the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher and Jennifer Saunders.
