Kevin Love is a basketball player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

After earning his Team USA debut at the 2010 World Championships, Kevin Love makes his Olympic debut in London as the Americans attempt to defend the gold medal they won in 2008. Love appeared in all nine world championship games as the U.S. won the title, but he averaged only 8.9 minutes per game, scoring 5.7 points and grabbing 4.9 rebounds (third-best on the team).

Love enters London coming off the best season of his four-year pro career. He averaged a career-high 26.0 points per game, which ranked fourth in the league, and scored a career-high 51 points on March 23. He also collected 13.3 rebounds (second in the league), earned his second straight All-Star Game appearance, and was named to the All-NBA Second Team. In 2010-11, Love finished the year as the NBA's top rebounder (15.2), added 20.2 points per game, recorded a career-high 31 rebounds on Nov. 12, 2010, and was selected as the league's Most Improved Player. Love was taken by the Memphis Grizzlies with the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, but traded that night to the Minnesota Timberwolves, for whom he's played his entire career.

Love played just one year in college, and led UCLA to the NCAA Final Four. He set the school's freshman single-season records for points scored (681) and rebounds (415), averaging 17.5 and 10.6. Love recorded double-doubles in 23 of his 39 games, and grabbed a career high 21 rebounds at Oregon State, the first time in 30 years that a UCLA player collected 20 or more rebounds. The stellar season made him a consensus All-American First Team pick, and he was a finalist for both the Naismith and Wooden Awards. He also became the second freshman to earn Pac-10 Player of the Year honors. Love chose UCLA partly because of its proximity to Santa Monica, where he was born.

At Lake Oswego High School, located in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, Love led his team to three state championship games and a state title in 2006. He set the Oregon state scoring record with 2,628 career points, averaging 26.8 points and 14.5 rebounds for his career. Following his senior season, Love was chosen as the 2007 Gatorade National Male Athlete of the Year, in addition to Naismith, Wooden, USA Today, National High School Coaches Association, McDonald's and Parade Magazine Male High School Player of the Year awards. He also became the first Oregonian to be named the state's Player of the Year three times.

The son of Karen and Stan Love, Kevin has an older brother, Collin, and a younger sister, Emily. He learned the game of basketball from Stan, who played four seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Bullets. When Kevin was about four years old, Stan put in tapes of Lakers and Celtics games for his son to watch. As he grew older, Kevin also watched instructional tapes from NBA stars, and later began playing at the gym with his brother and kids who were three years older. Other notable achievements in Love's family include his aunt, Kathleen McCartney Hearst, winning the 1982 Ironman World Championship and being inducted into the U.S. Triathlon Hall of Fame; and his uncle, Mike Love, becoming the lead singer of the Beach Boys.
