Kyla Ross is a gymnast competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA. She is a two-time U.S. junior all-around champion.

Kyla Ross earned a spot on the Olympic Team with a fifth-place finish at Trials. She also posted the second highest scores on the uneven bars — the Americans' weakest event. Ross is the youngest member of the women's gymnastics team.

The Olympic season marks Ross' first season of senior eligibility. While in past seasons a junior could compete at the world championships prior to the Olympic season, that rule no longer applied in 2011 and Ross was forced to watch her teammates win gold on TV. "I am really excited to finally compete as a senior now and to compete in front of a bigger audience and show myself and my gymnastics," Ross says. "I've been a junior for a long time."

In her senior international debut at the Pacific Rim Championships in March, Ross finished second in the all-around competition to her teammate Jordyn Wieber. Two weeks later, Ross won all-around gold at an event in Italy, defeating 2011 world team members Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.

Ross is strong on balance beam (her favorite event) and has upgraded her uneven bars routine. She is also working on the difficult Amanar vault for her senior debut season.

Her role model is Shannon Miller. "In addition to her numerous gymnastics achievements, she is a strong woman who has faced personal hardships, but continued to stay involved in the gymnastics world," Ross says. Miller was a two-time Olympic champion (team, balance beam) and five-time world champion.

Ross' nickname is "Mighty Mouse" — a name she was given at a Junior Nationals camp one year by the vault coach.

Her father was a Triple-A baseball player in the Atlanta Braves organization. He gives Ross advice on the mental aspect of sport — '"how to handle the stress emotionally and physically," she says.

Ross was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Now a resident of Aliso Viejo, California, she began gymnastics as a three-year-old because she had so much energy. "I used to always climb on my couch," to which her mom confirmed she once broke the arm. Ross has two younger siblings, but neither do gymnastics. Her sister plays volleyball and her brother plays football and baseball.
