Liam Tancock is a swimmer competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for Great Britain.

Liam Tancock made the final of both the 100m back (6th) and 200m IM (8th) in his Olympic debut in Beijing. He has won the last two (2009 and 2011) world titles in the non-Olympic 50m back. At the 2011 Worlds in Shanghai, Tancock was sixth in the 100m back and was fourth in that event at the 2009 Worlds in Rome. He was third in the 100m back at the 2007 Worlds in Melbourne.

When he was younger he got a postcard from Australia of a view of Sydney Harbor in the background and a yellow Lamborghini with the license plate "L1AM." Ever since then he wanted to visit Sydney, get a private number license plate and drive a Lamborghini. He's managed to visit Sydney and get a private number plate but that Lamborghini has not yet appeared in his driveway. One of his trips to Australia was for Christmas and New Years in 1999. "I saw the millennium 10 hours before my friends," he wrote on his website.

Tancock began swimming at age five, at first just to learn water safety but then he realized it was fun and that he loved the water, so he continued on. He swims for the Loughborough University Club team. He studied Sports Science there, and graduated in 2011 after eight years. He said they were very accommodating of the unique demands a swimmer's training schedule places on academic pursuits. Tancock also played rugby growing up, and was a winger for Exeter from age 10-14, He says at age 15 he chose swimming over rugby to focus on and hasn't looked back.

Tancock says his family is very close. His mother, Kim, is a teaching assistant, while his father, Tony, is a commercial director in a large local building firm. His brother is Ryan, and his girlfriend is Caitlin McClatchey, who will represent Great Britain in the 200m free.
