Mahershala Ali, whose full name is Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, stars in "Alphas" on Syfy in the recurring role of Nathan Clay, the head of a tactical unit within the U.S. Department of Defense tasked with dealing with rogue Alphas. Ali also recurs in HBO's drama series "Treme" as Anthony King.

Having first been introduced to acting during college, Mahershala Ali made his professional stage debut performing for a season with the California Shakespeare Festival shortly after graduation. Soon afterwards, he was accepted to New York University, where he received a Masters degree in acting.

Ali's first television role was as Dr. Trey Sanders on NBC's "Crossing Jordan." He was later cast as series regular Jelani Harper on the ABC drama "Threat Matrix." He is perhaps best known though for starring as Richard Tyler in USA Network's sci-fi series "The 4400." His other television credits include appearances on "Alcatraz," "Lights Out," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Lie to Me," "NYPD Blue," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "The Haunted" and "The Handler."

On the big screen, Ali was seen in "Predators," starring Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne and Topher Grace, and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
