Marcus Canty from "The X Factor" finished in fourth place overall in the FOX reality singing competition series. He is two years out of high school and enjoys playing basketball. He is 21 years old and lives in Bowie, Maryland, where he grew up.

Marcus Canty ("X Factor") auditioned in Seattle, Washington, where he performed "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder. The guy had an infectious rhythm, causing Nicole Scherzinger to get up and dance. L.A. Reid compared him to Bobby Brown; Paula Abdul said, "You illuminate

the room"; and Simon Cowell thought he was like Usher. All four judges voted yes to put Marcus through to boot camp. He survived the week and is competing in the boys category under the mentorship of judge L.A. Reid.

After making it through the week at the judges homes and into the top 17, Canty said, "I think this experience has nurtured me and made me realize that life is too short and to live through the moment. These are once-in-a-lifetime experiences you can't get back. I am going to keep having fun and bringing who I am."

Canty began singing at the age of 5 reciting his favorite television jingles and Disney movies. Raised by his mother who first exposed him to gospel music at church, he began performing publicly at the age of 11. His grandmother exposed him to the likes of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder — the musical prodigy instantly grew fond of R&B music where his passion lies. With aspirations of pursuing a career in the music industry, following his high school graduation, Canty was given a two year window to make that dream a reality. Determined, he auditioned for "The X Factor" just shy of that two year mark and blew the judges away with his audition. He delivered unique soul-stirring performances each week that captivated viewers across the world.

In January 2012, Epic Records signed him to a recording deal. "I am very blessed and grateful to God for the opportunity to become a part of the Epic family," says Canty. "I am excited about working with my mentor L.A. Reid, and I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. This is history in the making, let's go!"
