MC Hammer stars on A&E's reality docu-drama, "Hammertime."

In his 20s, Hammer began performing in nightclubs. Under his Bust-It music label Hammer released his debut album "Feel My Power," in 1987, selling what turned out to be more than 60,000 copies out of the back of his trunk after the album's single "Let's Get It Started" became a popular hit within the local nightclubs. Hammer received several offers from major record labels and eventually accepted a deal with Capitol Records who re-released the album as "Let's Get It Started."
The album's singles "Feel My Power," "Let's Get It Started," "Turn This Mutha Out" and "Pump It Up" added to the roster of new wave hip-hop videos that premiered on MTV in the late 1980s and saw heavy rotation on R&B/Hip-Hop radio stations before going triple-platinum, selling more than three million copies. Hammer also became well-known for his unique dance style that helped pave the way for the Bay Area movement called "Hyphy" today and helped to bring hip-hop and rap to the Bay Area.
His second album, "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" included the smash singles "U Can't Touch This," "Have You Seen Her?" and "Pray," and went on to become the first hip-hop album to reach diamond status, selling more than 10 million units.
Hammer's career continued to be very successful in the 1990s with album releases including "Too Legit to Quit," in 1991, "The Funky Headhunter" in 1994, "Inside Out" in 1995, and "Family Affair" in 1998. His pop-culture success led to licensed merchandise including dolls, lunchboxes, a Saturday morning Cartoon "Hammerman" and the iconic "Hammer pants." In 2001, he released "Active Duty" in tribute to those lost in the September 11th terrorist attacks, followed by a digital release "Look Look Look" in 2006. In 2003, Hammer appeared on the first season of "The Surreal Life," a reality show known for assembling an eclectic mix of celebrities to live together on VH1.
Today, Hammer lives in Tracy, California with Stephanie, his wife and confidant of more than 23 years, and their family of six. He has established himself in the digital media world as the co-founder of DanceJam.com, an exclusive community site dedicated only to dancing videos, competitions and styles, which he helped launch in 2008. Hammer is also an avid blogger, a top short-form content creator on Twitter and has a Hammertime iPhone application. He keeps busy performing at concerts, dancing with his crew at the "FullBlast Play House," juggling speaking engagements and running his social media optimized music label "FullBlast."
