Norihito Kobayashi is a nordic combined athlete competing at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics for Japan.

An average day in the life of Japanese Nordic combined athlete Norihito Kobayashi contains ski jumping and cross-country skiing, not massive amounts of hot dogs and 7-Up. Unrelated to competitive eater Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi, the two Japanese men share a popular surname in their country. Kobayashi is among the ten most common Japanese surnames and translates roughly to Grove in English.

Kobayashi was born in Akita, a city in the northern part of the Japanese main island of Honshu. Currently, he lives in Sapporo, the host city of the 1972 Winter Games located on the island of Hokkaido. The 2007 World Championships, also held in Sapporo, were not a friendly hometown event for the transplant. He finished outside of the top-20 in two individual events, and Japan took eighth out of ten in the team event.

From an American standpoint, the Nordic combined team event at the 2009 World Championships is best remembered for the lost race bib by Bill Demong and subsequent disqualification of the U.S. team. Lost was the eventual outcome of the competition. The Japanese quartet rebounded from a fifth-place position in the jumping portion to win the gold medal. Kobayashi overcame a 12-second deficit during his 5km anchor leg and edged out Germany's Tino Edelmann in a dramatic photo finish.
