Officer Ortiz in "Bordertown: Laredo"
Officer Ortiz Bordertown: Laredo
Officer Ortiz from "Bordertown: Laredo" stars in the A&E reality docu-series.

Having been on patrol for ten years before joining Narcotics, Officer Ortiz ("Bordertown: Laredo") was exposed to a lot of danger on the street. Now, having worked Narcotics since 2005, Ortiz has learned to build cases from the ground up. His most memorable bust was finding a 60-year-old grandma with 50 kilos of cocaine in her SUV. Here is an excerpt from an interview with him:

What's your favorite thing about being in the Narcotics Unit?

The investigations in Narcotics start from the ground up. Being proactive and creating a case out of virtually nothing.

Does being a Narcotics Officer on the border make you more apprehensive about the job?

Not really. It just makes the whole job more challenging. I actually feel like the patrol officers are exposed to more dangerous situations, to be honest. The danger is definitely there in Narcotics but not as much as being out on patrol. My hat is off to the patrolmen and women, because they're exposed to the great big, dangerous world out on patrol.

Is there any case from the past that was the most memorable?

There is one that will never escape me. We had a case that we followed all the way to Cotulla, Texas. A sweet 60-year-old woman—a person you'd least suspect—had an SUV filled with 50 kilos of cocaine. The car's windows would not roll down. You can guess where we found the cocaine, right?
