British actor Patrick Malahide has played many major film and television roles. He was born in Berkshire, England, the son of Irish immigrants. He made his television debut in 1977, in an adaptation of "The Eagle of the Ninth," and his first film was "Sweeney 2" the following year. appearances have included dramas such as "Minder" (1979-94), "The Singing Detective" (1986) and "Middlemarch" (1994), and he played Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Alleyn in the series "Alleyn Mysteries" of the early 1990s. More recently, he was seen in the procedural "Law & Order: UK," the dramas "Survivors" and "Five Days," the telefilms "Into the Storm" and "The 39 Steps," the miniseries "Elizabeth I" and the comedy "Extras."

His films include "A Month in the Country" (1987) and "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" (2001). More recently, he was seen in "Brideshead Revisited," alongside Matthew Goode and Hayley Atwell, "Like Minds," with Eddie Redmayne and Toni Collette, and the comedy "EuroTrip."
