He made his U.S. small screen debut as Dr. Matt Slingerland in the drama "Presidio Med." Blackthorne went on to star as Harry Dresden in the cult favorite Sci Fi Channel series "The Dresden Files." He did a villainous turn as biological terrorist Stephen Saunders in the third season of FOX's "24," recurred in the ABC drama series "Big Shots," as a cosmopolitan British homewrecker, and has also guest-starred on NBC's "ER" and "Medium."
With many independent films in his list of credits, he received critical acclaim for the role of Captain Andrew Russell opposite Aamir Khan in the Oscar-nominated "Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India," directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Blackthorne was also seen in the Robert Zemeckis production of "A Christmas Carol."
Off-camera, Paul Blackthorne can usually be found holding a camera. An accomplished photographer, he has had his work exhibited at galleries on both sides of the Atlantic, always with a philanthropic element and proceeds earmarked for various causes important to him. His work is displayed and sold on his website with proceeds supporting the environmental organizations that are also highlighted on the site. He was commended for donating the proceeds of his Bollywood Backpack exhibit, which he shot in Bhuj during the filming of "Lagaan," to the Red Cross Gujarat Earthquake Relief Fund after the village was destroyed by an earthquake in 2001.

as an 11-year-old with England's National Youth Music Theatre in the UK. Starring alongside Tom Hollander, Toby Jones and John Arney, Paul Blackthorne appeared in the first production of "The Leaving of Liverpool" at Abingdon School, which moved on to the Edinburgh Festival and then to London's West End. A few years later, Blackthorne was back with the NYMT at the Bergen Festival in a production of "The Ragged Child." After numerous commercials in the mid-1990s (most notably the Virgin Atlantic "Grim Reaper" commercial), he was back on stage at the Nottingham Playhouse in a production of Tennessee Williams' "Suddenly Last Summer."
