Paul Hebert from "Wicked Tuna" is one of the fishing captains featured in the National Geographic Channel reality docu-series. He is the captain of the Sambvca.

Paul Hebert is a third-generation fisherman and has been fishing since he was a child: "I grew up doing this. My father was a fisherman, and my five brothers do it. My mother does it. It's all I know. It's like growing up on a farm, and knowing about cows. I grew up knowing bluefin."

in a chair while he went harpooning." While some fishermen go through entire careers without even daring to tackle the mighty bluefin, Paul caught his first one at the tender age of 8, using a handline. "It was 1,100 pounds!" he recalls.

Paul fishes commercially year-round, but his real passion is catching giant bluefin. He's become known as one of Gloucester's most successful mates, and now he's ready to show the fleet what he can do as a captain.

A fan favorite on "Wicked Tuna," Paul is known for his trademark cackling laugh and his colorful use of local lingo. He might have a zany personality, but he is completely serious when it comes to catching giants — and he's vocal about the way he likes to fish, sometimes leading to conflict.

When it comes to fishing, Paul doesn't mess around. "The seas are no joke," he says. "All of us know guys who left the docks and never came back. It's a big ocean, and you never know what could happen out there. And it could be something so small that makes the difference — maybe you left some line unspooled on your deck, but if a fish takes off with it, you're getting pulled over too. You just never know. You have to use your head, and be careful."

In season 2, Paul had a rocky run — after serving as first mate for the FV-Tuna.com and being fired by longtime friend Captain Dave Carraro, Hebert stepped into the captain's role, commanding the Lisa & Jake for the remainder of the 2012 season. Although his late start as captain put him at a disadvantage in the competition, Paul nevertheless brought in an impressive number of fish in a short amount of time, and this season he's looking to make a name for himself, earn the respect of his fellow captains, and (especially) out-fish his former skipper.
