Pete Nelson from "Treehouse Masters" stars in the Animal Planet reality docu-series.

Born in New York and raised in New Jersey, Pete Nelson ("Treehouse Masters") is the owner of The TreeHouse Workshop Family Tree, a company that builds treehouses that are beautiful and functional works of art, as well as examples of truly fine craftsmanship.

As a young boy Nelson built a handful of treehouses with his father and friends and designed his first major treehouse while attending high school, though

it was never built. In 1994, Houghton-Mifflin published his coffee table book "Treehouses, the Art and Craft of Living out on a Limb." In 1997 he opened TreeHouse Workshop with his partner Jake Jacob, and he has written three more treehouse books since then, including "Treehouses of the World," published by Abrams in 2004.

Most recently, his undertakings have included the Northwest Treehouse School, which teaches hands on treehouse design and construction; Treehouse Point, an environmental treehouse retreat center; and the Tree for All Foundation, a non-profit corporation inspired by the work of Bill Allen of Forever Young that brings disabled people into nature and treehouses.
