Sakina Jaffrey stars in "House of Cards," a Netflix original series, as Linda Vasquez.

An Indian American actress, Sakina Jaffrey was born in Manhattan and raised in Greenwich Village in New York. As a child, she danced with the Joffrey Ballet at City Center. While still in high school, she made her acting debut in Wallace Shawn's "Marie and Bruce" at the New York Shakespeare Festival. Since then she has performed in theaters in New York City and regionally, including productions at the Classic Stage Company, Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Humana Festival at ATL and the George Street Playhouse. Favorite roles include Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" at Williamstown, and Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.

Jaffrey's film credits include "Defintely, Maybe," starring Ryan Reynolds, "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke, "The Nanny Diaries," alongside Scarlett Johansson, "The Manchurian Candidate," starring Denzel Washington, "Raising Helen," opposite Kate Hudson, Jonathan Demme's "The Truth About Charlie," "The Indian in the Cupboard" and "Daylight," starring Sylvester Stallone, in addition to the independent films "Masala" and "Chutney Popcorn." Jaffrey has also worked with Merchant Ivory on four films, including "The Mystic Masseur," "Cotton Mary," "The Perfect Murder" and "Slaves of New York."

On television, Jaffrey is best known for playing the recurring role of Dr. Hickman on the medical drama series, "Third Watch." She has also had guest starring roles in "Girls," "Blue Bloods," "A Gifted Man," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Heroes," "Law & Order" and "Sex & the City."
