Sam Neill stars in "Alcatraz" on FOX as Emerson Hauser. Neill previously starred as Merritt Grieves on ABC's "Happy Town" and as wealthy family friend Jeremiah Blackthorn on NBC's action-and-adventure drama "Crusoe," based on the classic novel by Daniel Defoe.

Early film credits include performances opposite Meryl Streep in the Oscar nominated "A Cry in the Dark" for which he won an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for best actor in a leading role, and in the horror thriller "Dead Calm" (1989) opposite Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane.

Neill's further film credits include the Oscar winning "The Hunt for Red October" (1990); "The Piano" (1993), for which he received his second AFI Award nomination for best supporting actor; Steven Spielberg's Oscar winning "Jurassic Park" (1993); "Sirens" (1994) opposite Hugh Grant; Robert Redford's Oscar nominated "The Horse Whisperer" (1998) opposite Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas; Chris Colombus' "Bicentennial Man" (1999) opposite Robin Williams; and Rowan Woods' "Little Fish" (2005) alongside Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving.

Neill's many TV roles include "Reilly Ace of Spies" (1983) for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, "Merlin" (1998) for which he received both Golden Globe (Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV) and Emmy nominations (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie). In 2004 his role in "Jessica" earned Neill his fifth AFI Award nomination (Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Television Drama or Comedy).

Neill was also seen in the Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated TV series "The Tudors" (2007) with Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Future film appearances for Sam Neill include "Daybreakers" (2009) with Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe, "Skin" (2008), "How to Change in 9 Weeks" (2008) with Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto, and "Dean Spanley" (2008) alongside Jeremy Northam, Bryan Brown and Peter O'Toole.
