In 2000, Shahi had a chance meeting at the Cowboy Ranch with director Robert Altman, who was in town filming "Dr. T and the Women." Altman then persuaded her to move to Los Angeles and pursue acting.

Shahi is best known for her role on Showtime's critically acclaimed series "The L Word," where she played Carmen, a bilingual production assistant who spent her evenings as a deejay. She also starred as Dani Reese, Charlie Crews' (Damian Lewis) skeptical, demanding partner in the NBC series "Life." Her other television credits include roles on "The Sopranos," "Dawson's Creek," "Frasier" and "Alias."

In addition, Shahi's feature-film credits include "Old School" with Will Ferrell and Luke Wilson, and Christopher Guest's "For Your Consideration." She can also be seen in The Weinstein Company's "Crossing Over," a film written and directed by Wayne Kramer.

In the independent film "Shades of Ray" for director Jaffar Mahmood, Shahi plays the love interest to American-born Ray, who struggles with his multi-cultural identity when finding love. She also starred opposite Lucy Liu and Michael C. Hall in the independent film "East Fifth Bliss."
