Shannon Boxx is a soccer player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Shannon Boxx was part of both the 2004 and 2008 gold-medal-winning U.S. Olympic soccer teams. She was diagnosed with Lupus in 2007 and has become a face for overcoming its debilitating effects. Her older sister, Gillian Boxx, won gold as part of the 1996 U.S. softball team.

Boxx has been one of the best defensive-oriented midfielders in the world since her excellent performance at the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, but has also been a vitally important part of the U.S. attack for her scoring (22 career goals) and ability to set the team's ball-possession rhythm. She has become a consistent presence in the center midfield, starting 137 of her 143 career caps, and her partnership with Carli Lloyd in the middle is a key to U.S. success.

Boxx attended Notre Dame's College of Arts and Letters from 1995 to 1999. She made her mark there, leading the Fighting Irish to an 89-8-4 record during her four-year career. Boxx ranks among the top 15 in school history in six career categories. Boxx is unique in that she's the only player to make the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup Team without ever previously earning a full national team cap. Boxx went on to make her name as one of the top women's defensive midfielders, although she was sidelined by injuries in 2006. She graduated from Notre Dame in 1999 with bachelor's degrees in psychology and African-American studies.

Boxx was a three-year honor roll member at South Torrance High School.
