Sherri Shepherd is one of the co-hosts of ABC's talk show, "The View." An actress and comedienne as well, she also continues to reprise her hysterical role as Angie Jordan, wife to Tracey Morgan's character on the Emmy-winning "30 Rock."
In addition, she is one of the celebrity contestants on Season 14 of ABC's ballroom competition series "Dancing with the Stars" in spring 2012. She teams with Val Chmerkovskiy, who is returning for his second season as a professional partner.
On the big screen,
Shepherd's humorous autobiography, "Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Yourself a Break," was released by Grand Central Publishing in October 2009. She also had a successful run in the critically acclaimed, off-Broadway hit "Love, Loss and What I Wore."
Whether on stage or screen, Sherri Shepherd's magnetic personality and hilarious sense of humor never fail to delight audiences. A self-described "class clown," she relocated to Los Angeles during high school and considered being a mortician, but took a job as a legal secretary instead. She was encouraged by friends to put together her own stand-up act after seeing Andrew Dice Clay perform. Her love of performing was instantaneous. Success, however, was not… For five years she toiled as a secretary by day and performed stand-up at night. She finally got her first real break in the comedy "Cleghorne!"
Shepherd has been featured in the motion pictures "Who's Your Caddy," "Beauty Shop," "Cellular" and "Guess Who." More recently she starred in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Saphhire" and Dreamworks' hit feature "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," where she voiced the character of Ben Stiller's mother.
She starred in and executive produced Lifetime's comedy "Sherri," which is loosely based on her life and stand-up comedy. She previously starred for four seasons on ABC's "Less than Perfect." A groundbreaking performance on the hit series "Friends" earned her the reputation as one of Hollywood's most reliable sources for brilliant comedic delivery. She has appeared on "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Joan of Arcadia," "Suddenly Susan," "Jamie Foxx Show," "Living Single," "Emeril" and the short lived satirical comedies "Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central)" and "Wedding Bells." She is also the voice of twin toucans Cheryl and Meryl in the Disney Channel's comedy series, "Brandy & Mr. Whiskers."
An accomplished stand-up comic, Shepherd has performed at The Comedy Store, The Improv and the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, and has released both a DVD and a CD of her routine entitled "No Refund, No Exchange."
Sherri is a celebrity spokesperson for March of Dimes and helped it kick off the 2010 "March for Babies" by ringing the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange. She is also the national spokesperson for the YAI National Institute.
She has a six-year-old son Jeffrey and recently married Lamar Sally. Their wedding was captured by The Style Network and "Wedding Fabulous: Sherri Shepherd Gets Married" garnered the highest ratings for a wedding special on the network. They reside in New York City.
