Captain Sig Hansen from "Deadliest Catch" is an Alaskan crab fisherman on the Northwestern fishing vessel in the Discovery Channel reality docu-series. Hansen also stars in Disney • Pixar's animated movie "Cars 2" as the voice of Crabby.

Sig Hansen, whose father was one of the original crab fishermen of Dutch Harbor, has been a captain since the age of 22. A fourth-generation Norwegian fisherman, Sig is very superstitious, but always brings back a big catch. He and his two brothers Norman and Edgar, (Sig is the eldest) not only work on the Northwestern, they own it. Living proof that blood is thicker than water, this three-brother crew has fished together for almost 20 years. Sig revels in the strategy and competition of fishing.

Hansen is proud to carry on the flawless record set by his father, not only catching and delivering crab, but doing so safely. This is a great accomplishment in one of the most dangerous occupations in the world.

As a geographer, I believe deadliest catch is very educational and refer to regularly to the series, during geography and public policy and health planning classes. The water bodies referenced and weather conditions--and planning before and after they are at sea- is very enlightening and educational. Keep up the good work. Professor Patricia Ojea
