Siobhan Finneran stars in "Downton Abbey" on PBS as Sarah O'Brien, the Lady's Maid, a character whom she describes as "a proper, rotten, nasty piece of work." "But I like her," Finneran adds mischievously, "she's just misunderstood!"

A leading actress on British stage and television, Siobhan Finneran first appeared on PBS's "Masterpiece" in a long-ago episode of "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates" and more recently in the political fantasy "The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard."

Finneran's career began with a starring role in the slice-of- life comedy film "Rita, Sue and Bob Too," which achieved cult status. Since then she has starred in a wide range of British television series and performed in some of the most prestigious theaters in the country. In the UK, she is best known for playing Janice Garvey in the popular comedy drama "Benidorm." Other TV credits include "The Street," "Unforgiven," "Apparitions," "Blue Murder," "Other People," "Wire in the Blood," "The Royal," "Johnny and the Bomb," "Dalziel and Pascoe," "Conviction," "Passerby" and "Heartbeat."

In 2005 she won the MEN Best Actress award for her performance in "On the Shore of the Wild World" at the Royal National Theatre in London. Finneran currently lives on the Lancashire moors with her husband, Mark Jordan, and two children.
