"Super 8" is a 2011 science fiction thriller, written and directed by J.J. Abrams, and starring Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Gabriel Basso, Noah Emmerich, Ron Eldard, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee and Zach Mills.

"Super 8" tells the story of a group of young friends in a small Ohio town who set out to make a zombie movie. While shooting their Super 8 film, the friends witness a horrifying train crash, barely escaping themselves, and soon discover that it was no accident. Soon after, strange disappearances and shocking events begin to take place around town, and local Deput Jackson Lamb (Kyle Chandler) attempts to uncover the truth, which is far more terrifying than any of them could imagine.

The film is a combination of a sci-fi thriller and a nostalgic coming-of-age story, reminiscent of Spielberg's own classic film "E.T." The film originally began as two separate projects developed by Abrams, who then decided to combine them.

The producers of "Super 8" are Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. The creative team includes director of photography Larry Fong, production designer Martin Whist, and editors Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey. The costume designer is Ha Nguyen, and the composer is Michael Giacchino. All of the visual effects and animation were done by Industrial Light & Magic, the legendary special effects house.
