Tony Gardner stars in "Last Tango in Halifax" on PBS as John. He also stars as Lieutenant-Colonel Smith in BBC's war comedy "Bluestone 42."

British actor Tony Gardner is also a medical physician. He qualified as a doctor from Guy's Hospital in 1987, but soon started working in comedy as half of the medical comedy duo Struck Off and Die at the Edinburgh Festival and on Radio 4, winning the Writers Guild Award for Best Radio Comedy in 1994.

Brian Johnson in the comedy series "My Parents are Aliens," for which he also wrote a couple of episodes. His other TV credits include "The Thick of It," "The Armando Iannucci Shows," "Lenny Henry in Pieces," "Bremner, Bird and Fortune" and "Armstrong and Miller." He more recently starred in the BBC miniseries "The Escape Artist," the BAFTA-nominated comedy "Fresh Meat," Sky1's "Gates" and all four seasons of Jack Dee's sitcom "Lead Balloon" for the BBC.

Radio credits include "Three Off the Tee," "Absolute Power" and "The Sunday Format."
