Tony McQuay is an athlete competing in track and field at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA, making his first appearance at the Games, where he will contend in the men's 400m.

Tony McQuay earned his first Olympic berth with a strong showing at the U.S. Trials. He won his opening round heat in 45.41, the third-fastest time of the round, and his semifinal heat in 44.84, the second-fastest time of that round. In the final, McQuay finished second to reigning Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt in a personal-best 44.49.

McQuay was once again the preeminent quarter-miler in the country during his senior season at Florida, winning the NCAA title in the 400m in 44.58 and anchoring Florida's 4x400m relay to victory in 3:00.02. In 2011, he won the NCAA Indoor title in the 400m and finished runner-up at NCAA Outdoors.

McQuay burst onto the international scene in the summer of 2011 when he followed up his runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships by winning the 400m at the USA Outdoor Championships in 44.68, beating among others 2004 Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner. At the World Championships in Daegu, McQuay finished sixth in his heat in 46.76 and did not advance.

McQuay's career as a sprinter gained steam at Suncoast High School where he ran the 100m, 200m and 400m. He captured the FHSAA state title in the 400m as a senior, and set two school records in the 200m and 400m. McQuay set the 200m record with a time of 21.53, breaking a record previously held by Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears. He also set a school record of 46.84 in the 400m, taking down a mark once held by DeJuan Morgan, a defensive back who has played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets.
