"The Tree of Life" is a drama film written and directed by Terrence Malick and starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. This is only the fifth film from Malick, who typically takes many years in between projects.

"The Tree of Life" is a hymn to life, excavating answers to the most haunting and personal human questions through a kaleidoscope of the infinite and the cosmic. The film chronicles the raw, emotional upbringing of a boy in a repressed Texas household, set within the frame

of a grand inquiry into the creation of life in the universe.

At its core, "The Tree of Life" is an impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1905's. The film follows the life journey of eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of his childhood to his disillusioned adult years. Jack, played as an adult with Sean Penn, attempts to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt), all the while seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life within the fractured modern world. Through Malick's signature gorgeous imagery, the film shows how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

From Fox Searchlight Pictures, "The Tree of Life" is produced by River Road Entertainment. The film is produced by Sarah Green, Bill Phlad, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Grant Hill. The executive producer is Donald Rosenfeld, and the co-producer is Nicholas Gonda, with Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz as co-executive producers.
