Valarie Pettiford stars in "Jumping the Broom," alongside Paula Patton, Laz Alonso and Angela Bassett, as Aunt Geneva.

Valarie Pettiford recently starred in "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?" Other film credits include "Stomp the Yard," "The Wiz," "The Cotton Club" and "Glitter." Her starring role in the AFI short film, "Response," garnered her a nomination for Best Actress in a Short Film at the Method Festival.

Pettiford's work for television includes roles on the hit series "Criminal Minds," "House of Payne" and "Half & Half," for which she earned three NAACP Image Award nominations. She also appeared in the HBO pilot "Anatomy of Hope" directed by J.J. Abrams. Other television credits include "CSI: Miami," "Bones," "CSI," "The District," "Frasier," "The West Wing" and "One Life to Live."

An accomplished and versatile stage performer, Pettiford received rave reviews for "Babalu: A Tribute to the Music of Desi Arnaz" in New York, and at the Adrienne Arsht theater in Miami. She opened the Summer Concert Series with The Pasadena Pops conducted by Rachel Worby in 2007. She performed her widely successful one-woman show to sold-out audiences at Pepperdine University's Smothers Theatre, The Gardenia Room, the El Portal Theater, Mark's presented by Upright Cabaret in Los Angeles, The Metropolitan Room in New York City, where she received the 2007 Backstage Bistro Award, and most recently at New York's Famous Birdland Supper Club.

Pettiford's Broadway and tour credits include "Fosse," for which she was nominated for a Tony Award, Outer Critics Circle, Dora Mavor Moore Award and recognized by the Drama League; "Chicago" (opposite Chita Rivera) in London's West End; "Sophisticated Ladies," as a member of the original cast and as understudy for Judith Jamison; "Grind," "Dancin," "Big Deal" and "Show Boat " for which she received Naacp, LA's Robby and the Vancouver Sun Reader's Choice Awards. She has also appeared in Des McAnuff's productions of "The Wiz" and "The Wild Party."

Pettiford continues to lend her support and talents to many charities annually and is thrilled to have fulfilled a lifelong dream of recording an album entitled "Hear My Soul."
