Venus Williams is a tennis player competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA.

Venus Williams made a triumphant to the WTA Tour in March, winning her first round match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. Other than playing a doubles match during the United States' Fed Cup first-round victory over Belarus In Februrary, Williams hadn't played an official match since the 2011 U.S. Open first round.

After withdrawing from two tournaments, Williams won her first round match at the 2011 U.S. Open. But then Williams withdrew from her second-round match, announcing she had been diagnosed with the fatigue-causing, auto-immune disease known as Sjogren's Syndrome. She did not play for the rest of the year in competitive level and ended 2011 ranked world no. 102. It was her first finish of a season ranked outside of the world top 50 since 1997.

A double gold medalist at her Olympic debut at the 2000 Sydney Games, Venus Williams is made her third Olympic appearance in Beijing in 2008. Venus once again teamed up woth sister Serena to win gold in the Olympic doubles in Beijing. The sisters shrieked in unison and jumped for joy when they beat Spanish duo Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-2, 6-0. Back in 2000, the sisters won the gold medal in doubles at the Sydney Olympics, becoming the first sister-sister tandem to win Olympic doubles gold. Venus brought home the singles gold medal as well. She was the first player in the modern (1988-present) era to win two tennis golds at one Games.

She and Chanda Rubin lost in the first round in 2004, and Venus was ousted in singles in the round of 16 by Mary Pierce. "I love the Olympics; I had great success in Sydney and a wonderful experience in Greece," Venus said. "I'm looking forward to the same thing there, and I would love to have gold in singles and gold in doubles with Serena. That's the plan."

She and Serena plotted their moves for Beijing — no, not in doubles. The sisters are avid pin collectors, and not just any pins. They collect and trade the athlete pins that competitors get from their confederations, and they are as ruthless about it as they are with tennis on the court — even great legal minds have met their match against the sisters in pin trading. "I'm a huge pin collector," Venus said. "I still have my case. I don't show people my medals; I show them my pins. If they will ask to see the medals, I will show them, but as a rule, I will always show my pins. I had a great time; I was a hard negotiator. At the time, Serena out-negotiated (the late) Johnny Cochran ... she out-negotiated him of a very very hard pin to get, so it was funny. We were both into it. ... They give you pins and you trade. So I wasn't into the brand-name pins, just the athlete pins. It's hard to get a pin from Turkmenistan or the Ukraine because there aren't as many athletes. Sometimes it was intimidating; there was a big huge wrestler and we were like, 'Should we ask him?' 'I don't know.' We were nervous; he was big. I think I'll be a lot braver this time around."

Like her younger sister, Venus has a long list of accomplishments, including a 2007 Wimbledon title earned when most had written her off — seeded 23rd, she won her four final matches without dropping a set. She owns five Wimbledon titles in all (2008, '05, '01 and '00 being the others) and has two U.S. Open titles won in 2000 and 2001.

Even with the accomplishments, Venus does have a dark side to her cheerful personality and winning ways — she's a sucker for reality television. "Unfortunately, I watch Rock of Love," she said. "I watch the Real Housewives of New York. And I watch Divorce Court. It's hilarious, because they come to court and say, 'Your honor, I want $300,' and they're arguing over the $300. They get divorced because their husband can't dance, and it's hilarious."
